We are excited to announce the newest owner of The Grounds Guys: Paul “Jay” Lefforge. When he came to us at FranCoach, Jay was working full-time, but he was ready to exit the corporate world for the chance to own his own business. Now he has scored the opportunity to do just that with a venture that will give him the chance to scale his business and invest in his financial future.
Who Is Jay Lefforge?
Jay has an impressive career history in the corporate world, and his educational qualifications are no joke either. With an MBA from the University of Texas and experience as a former CPA (Certified Public Accountant), he is already set up for success as a business owner. He has been with a couple of different major corporations but was tired of working for someone else.
Plus, with three children in their late teens and early twenties, Jay and his wife Gwendolyn have been parenting for over two decades. While he is proud of his many accomplishments in the workplace, Jay is equally thrilled to see his children grow and celebrate achievements of their own. Now he is excited to set an example of what success can look like working for himself.
Why Did Jay Make a Career Change?
After years in the corporate world, Jay was tired of climbing the corporate ladder – and as many of us know, there’s only so far you’re going to climb in a massive organization. Jay’s frustrations with corporate life probably sound all too familiar to anyone who has spent time there: too much politics, too many meetings, and not enough control. Moreover, Jay wanted to directly reap the benefits of a job well done.
He discovered the Franchising 101 podcast and realized that there was someone who could help him with this – and that led him to FranCoach, where he was able to find the route toward being his own boss. The opportunity to take control over his life, both personal and professional, was really key to him.

Jay liked that within the business model, there are a number of other services he can provide – it’s not just landscaping. The Grounds Guys offers other design-related services too, which tapped into Jay’s creative brain. He appreciated that he could start with a smaller team, grow, and scale over time. Down the road, Jay can even add other Neighborly brands to his portfolio, a concept sometimes called “franchise stacking.”
